Test Suite Specification: Synchrophasor – IEEE Synchrophasor Measurement Test Suite Specification–Version 2
The test suite specification (TSS) provides organizations that are testing phasor measurement unit (PMU) performance with a suite of unambiguous test plans. For Corporate or Institutional Access, request a custom quote for your organization at www.ieee.org/go/synchrophasor-subscriptions.
The scope of this test suite specification is limited to the testing of phasor measurement unit electrical performance. As of this revision of the test suite specification, the standard for phasor measurement unit performance is IEEE Std C37.118.1(TM)-2011, IEEE Standard for Synchrophasor Measurements for Power Systems as modified by IEEE C37.118.1a(TM)-2014.
IEEE C37.118.1a-2014 Standard for Synchrophasor Measurements for Power Systems Amendment 1: Modification of Selected Performance Requirements
Modifications in this amendment include some performance requirements with related text updates to correct inconsistencies and remove limitations introduced by IEEE Std C37.118.1(TM)-2011. It was discovered that a few requirements were not achievable with the published models as was intended and others were extremely difficult to meet with available hardware. This amendment modifies requirements in Table 4 through Table 10. Text was modified to support the requirement modification. Testing described in 5.5.9 was clarified, and Table 11 (formerly Table 12) was modified to match. Annex C was modified to keep it consistent with the rest of the document.
IEEE C37.244-2013 Guide for Phasor Data Concentrator Requirements for Power System Protection, Control, and Monitoring
This guide describes performance, functional, and communication needs of phasor data concentrators (PDCs) for power system protection, control, and monitoring applications. The guide covers synchrophasor system needs and testing procedures for PDCs. It includes functional requirements for associated interfaces with phasor measurement units (PMUs) to a PDC and PDC systems. In particular, it includes requirements for synchronization, synchrophasor data processing, and real-time access.
IEEE C37.242-2013 Guide for Synchronization, Calibration, Testing, and Installation of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) for Power System Protection and Control
The document provides guidance for synchronization, calibration, testing, and installation of phasormeasurement units (PMUs) applied in power system protection and control. The following are addressed in this guide:a) Considerations for the installation of PMU devices based on application requirements and typicalbus configurations.b) Techniques focusing on the overall accuracy and availability of the time synchronization system.c) Test and calibration procedures for PMUs for laboratory and field applications.d) Communications testing for connecting PMUs to other devices including Phasor Data Concentrators(PDCs).
IEEE C37.118.2-2011 Standard for Synchrophasor Data Transfer for Power Systems
A method for real-time exchange of synchronized phasor measurement data between power system equipment is defined. This standard specifies messaging that can be used with any suitable communication protocol for real-time communication between phasor measurement units (PMU), phasor data concentrators (PDC), and other applications. It defines message types, contents, and use. Data types and formats are specified. A typical measurement system is described. Communication options and requirements are described in annexes. Keywords: data concentrator, DC, IEEE C37.118.2, PDC, phasor, phasor data concentrator, phasor measurement unit, PMU, synchronized phasor, synchrophasor. This standard defines a method for exchange of synchronized phasor measurement data between power system equipment. It specifies messaging including types, use, contents, and data formats for real-time communication between phasor measurement units (PMU), phasor data concentrators (PDC), and other applications.
